The Hahira City Council approved more than $400,000 in expenditures Thursday.
The bulk of that amount was for the aerated pond dredging project. The project costs $414,150. The winning bid was from Reynolds Construction.
The council also consented to purchasing a camera and alarm system for city hall and the new train depot using SPLOST VII funds.
City Manager Jonathan Sumner had proposed the purchase to the council at the Tuesday work session, saying while the security system was being discussed for the new depot, some concerns for city hall had also been expressed.
“I think it’s a necessity to provide for the security of city hall,” Sumner said of a camera and alarm system during the work session.
Sumner made another request Tuesday that was approved during the Thursday meeting; Hahira’s annual contribution to the Moody Support Committee, run by Parker Greene, was increased from $1,000 to $3,500.
“When you take into account all of the citizens in Hahira who are Moody Air Force Base service members, all of their family members, all of their children who attend our schools, you really come up with quite a big number, quite a big component of our population, and this is really a great thing that the city does,” Sumner said of the Moody Support contribution.
Following the approval of these items, Councilman Mason Barfield of District 4 shared his appreciation of the work by the city employees, which enabled the council to be able to approve the expenditures.
“We can’t do that unless our people are doing their job,” he said.
