Gulf Shores starts beach restoration efforts

Posted on March 24, 2025

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The City of Gulf Shores says on its City of Gulf Shores – Municipal Government Facebook page that beach restoration efforts started this week.

Here is the post:

This week, our Public Works crews began beach restoration efforts using the Christmas trees recycled by our residents this year!

The restoration efforts started at the beach access point by the Resident Parking Lot and include the following enhancements:

• Leveling the sand under the blue access mat to improve beach accessibility.

• Clearing drifted sand from the boardwalk to keep pathways clear.

• Restoring dunes with the recycled Christmas trees.

Coming soon: Sand fencing and native vegetation will be added in this area to strengthen the dune system further.

Thank you to everyone who recycled their Christmas trees, and a special thanks to our amazing Public Works “Can-Do Crew” for their hard work on this project!
