Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Beach renourishment project in Myrtle Beach moved to next week, work expanded

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Another beach renourishment project is set to get underway in the Grand Strand.

The city of Myrtle Beach originally announced on Monday that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will start staging equipment this week for the project. The city later said the mobilization will be delayed until next week due to an equipment delay, with the contractor finishing work in the final sections of North Myrtle Beach.

In the update, the city said the Army Corps of Engineers granted permission for the contractor, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, to expand work to include the Arcadian Shores area, which is just north of the city limits.

The Arcadian Shores area was not originally included in the project, but the city said renourishment is needed to address erosion issues near Bear Branch and Singleton swashes.

The addition of the Arcadian Shores area will not significantly impact the Myrtle Beach construction timeline for Memorial Day, according to the contractor.
