Georgetown County has postponed the public meeting to discuss the dredging project originally planned for this Thursday night.
Officials claimed that delaying the meeting until after the bids on the project have been received and opened would allow the staff to be better informed and more equipped to answer the public’s questions about the timing and the costs of the dredging project.
The Murrells Inlet dredging project will be funded through that county’s Capital Project Sales Tax, which went into effect in May of 2015, after a public vote.
The main component of the project will address dredging the areas that belong to the Army Corps of Engineers, and also includes a “beach renourishment element” where sand from the dredging will be redeposited on Garden City Beach.
The bidding is scheduled to close in early August. A new date for the meeting has not yet been set.
