Starting on March 10th, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be beginning a dredging project off Volusia County, in tandem with the county government and the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND).
The first stage of the project, which starts on March 10th, will entail the delivery and installation of a temporary dredge pipeline in Ponce Inlet. The infrastructure will dredge approximately 900,000 cubic yards of sand from Ponce Inlet and the Intracoastal Waterway, according to a report from the county.
Residents will begin to see the effects of the project starting on March 3rd, when work will be done to some of the nearby beach access points to facilitate the project. Contractors with the county will begin to work on the boardwalk at Lighthouse Point Park to make the beach area accessible to the Army Corps.
From around March 10th to March 15th the vehicle beach access ramp at Beach Street in Ponce Inlet will be closed in order to facilitate the arrival of the project’s contractors. Pedestrian access from the parking lot will not be closed off entirely, but will be redirected to another nearby walkway. The jetty deck will be closed as repairs are conducted.
