GAO denies dredging company’s bid protest over stalled Absecon Island project

The U.S. Government Accountability Officeissued a decision June 8 denying a bid protest from Great Lakes Dredge and Dock ofOak Brook, Ill., the dredging company currently pumping sand onto some of Cape May County’s beaches.

Great Lakes protested the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ decision to cancel an invitation to bid for beachfill and sand dune construction for the Absecon Island Shore Protection Project because the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has yet to acquire partial property easements from the City of Margate and two private oceanfront property owners.
