The tenth year of PCB dredging in the Fox River wrapped up Thursday.
Crews have been working to remove PCBs from the sediment. Much of this year’s work took place from Porlier Street north towards the mouth of the Fox River.
Work is expected to resume in spring, according Scott Stein, spokesman for the Fox River cleanup project.
This year, for the first time, some areas of sediment were capped with sand, stone or quarry spall. About 52 acres were treated in this way.
In all, than 5.4 million cubic yards of sediment have been dredged in the past decade. More than three million tons of sediment has been processed and taken to the landfill for disposal.
