GREEN BAY (WLUK) — Dredging and processing will continue for its 11th year on the Fox River.
Operations will take place from the Mason Street Bridge, north to the bay.
Those on the Fox River Cleanup Project expect this to be the final year of dredging operations.
The goal of the project is to reduce the risk to human health and the environment due to the presence of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) in sediment over a 13-mile stretch of the Fox River from Little Rapids to the bay.
The first ten years of the project dredged more than 5.4 million cubic yards of sediment, producing approximately 3.1 million tons of material hauled to the landfill. About 800 acres of river bottom have been capped or sand covered.
