Coastal Engineering expects preliminary work to take six months
The contracts include design, permitting, data collection and a survey which is expected to take six months for the Bonita Springs firm to complete and which is the part in a larger re-nourishment of the sand on Fort Myers Beach being funded by Lee County.
“This is an expense that is not reimbursable by the TDC (Tourist Development Council funds),” Fort Myers Beach Manager Roger Hernstadt said.
The consultant’s work will show trends of changes on the beach including erosion and accretion and will be used to maximize reimbursement from the state.
Beach renourishment is expected to begin next year.
Casey Bishop Day
The Town of Fort Myers Beach Council issued a proclamation naming Tuesday, May 18 Casey Bishop Day in honor of the American Idol contestant and Estero resident.
Fort Myers Beach Mayor Ray Murphy said a performance by Bishop was being planned by the Lee County Visitors and Convention Bureau for this week on Fort Myers Beach if she had advanced to the final round of competition. Bishop finished fourth.
During the American Idol competition, Bishop performed a variety of covers of tunes from musicians such as The Black Crowes, Soundgarden, Billie Eilish, Coldplay as well as “Somewhere over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz.”
Kid’s pool closed
The Town of Fort Myers Beach children’s pool and large slide are temporarily closed due to a delay in the contractor getting a new pool pump installed. Health Department guidelines require the kid pool to be closed until the pump is replaced.
A few water features are still open for smaller children to enjoy until the kid’s pool is reopened. The lap pool is also open.
