In February The Logan Daily News reported that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources was making preparations to dredge Lake Logan to reduce a build-up of organic material in the lake, but had not yet started the project.
ODNR subsequently began the dredging, and was depositing the silt and other material removed from the lake on a roughly 15-acre “dredge material relocation area” (DMRA) leased from a landowner on Blum Road.
This week, however, an ODNR spokesperson confirmed that, in response to citizen concerns about unspecified impacts of the storage site on the floodplain, the agency has put a hold on the dredging while it looks for a better DMRA site.
“The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks and Watercraft asked for a Base Floodplain Evaluation of the Dredge Material Relocation Area (DMRA) at Lake Logan after community members voiced concerns,” reported Andy Chow in an email. “After further review, the ODNR Division of Water Resources determined that the DMRA would have an impact on the floodplain. In response, ODNR suspended the operation and is currently evaluating new locations to place sediment before dredging can continue.”
