Following the Federal Government flooding alert, Ondo State Government yesterday began excavation work of all canals in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government to prevent flood disasters across the state.

Oseni added that the dredging of Oluwa River will also begin in earnest.

At the palace of Olu of Igbokoda, Oseni assured the Kabiyesi, Oba Odidiomo Afolabi and the residents of the affected areas of government’s prompt intervention to open up the canal for free flow of water to prevent flood disasters in Igbokoda during the rainy season.

Oyeni who was conducted around the affected area by Oba Afolabi assured the Kabiyesi that the State Government would leave no stone unturned to prevent flood disasters in the state and make the environment habitable for the people of Igbokoda and its environs.

The Commissioner therefore moved around the affected area for on-the-spot assessment, starting from Ikuemola Street down to Ebute Waterside in Igbokoda which also connects the river Oluwa.

Oba Afolabi, while thanking Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the excavation work on the canals, revealed that the last excavation and dredging of the canals in Igbokoda was in 1953.

The Inspection Team later moved to Ilu- Abo in Igbobini to inspect the area of the Oluwa River where the dredger is to begin dredging.
