BALTIMORE, MD — The Port of Baltimore observed a major milestone in Baltimore since cleanup of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse began.
Port officials posted on the platform X, that the Saimaagracht was the first vessel to successfully move through the temporary 35-foot deep channel from the Port of Baltimore’s public terminals.
With the salvage operation at the Key Bridge on track, officials opened a new limited access channel Thursday to allow larger ships in and out of the port.
The channel is 35-feet deep, and several ships, which have been stuck in the port for weeks, are scheduled to leave. Some container barges are set to enter the port as well.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District posted additional photos on social media showing the container/feeder barge Columbia Freedom, the first inbound commercial vessel that went through the Francis Scott Key Bridge Limited Access Channel on Thursday evening.
