First Bubble Barrier stops plastic from Amsterdam’s canals. Video

Posted on July 16, 2020

The Great Bubble Barrier launched the first Bubble Barrier which is currently stopping plastic before entering our seas. The implementation was made possible by the Regional Waterauthority Amstel, Gooi en Vecht (Amsterdam) and the Municipality of Amsterdam. We are thankful for this collaboration. It is a first step to bring the Bubble Barrier further to the world!

The Bubble Barrier is a bubble screen and captures plastic water of the Amsterdam canals. This prevents canal plastic from flowing into the North Sea. This makes the city of Amsterdam a global pioneer in the fight against plastic pollution.

Amsterdam; the water rich city where we as a company are also located at the moment. And, a good location to further optimalize the Bubble Barrier to expand to other places (internationally).

The Bubble Barrier in Amsterdam is being executed by The Great Bubble Barrier and Waternet, commissioned by the Regional Water Authority Amstel, Gooi and Vecht and the City of Amsterdam, in collaboration with van den Herik Sliedrecht, STOP! Micro Waste, Canadianpond and the Plastic Soup Foundation.
