Fire on Dutra dredge in Mayport Basin Fla leaves 1 injured

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a ship fire in the Mayport Basin Saturday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

JFRD said crews responded to a fire on a dredging ship. Crews were able to put out the fire, JFRD confirmed.

Members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, the Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission assisted JFRD with the incident. The St. Johns River Harbor Pilots also assisted.

Right now, it is unclear what caused the fire.

According to the US Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Station Mayport responded to a fire that occurred in the engine room of the ‘Stuyvesant’, which was located near the entrance of the St. John’s River, on Nov 2, 2024.
