Finnish Firm Makes Jan de Nul Responsible for Marine Work

Finnish wind power company Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy has appointed Jan De Nul Group as main contractor for the marine construction work on the Tahkoluoto offshore windfarm in Pori. Cable manufacturer Prysmian Finland will supply the undersea cables for the project. Construction of the windfarm will begin in April.

Jan De Nul will undertake the marine work over the next two summer seasons and will use one of its jack-up vessels to install the turbines. The company will be responsible for dredging, seabed preparation work, and the installation of foundations and wind turbines.

Jan De Nul Group has worked in the Baltic before, building an offshore windfarm in Kårehamn, Sweden, in 2013. Approximately 14km of cable will be installed on the seabed.

The Tahkoluoto offshore windfarm is the first in the world designed for operation in ice-prone conditions will have a total of 10 Siemens 4MW turbines. It is due to enter into operation in autumn 2017.
