ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, received $437 million to complete work on the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Flood Risk Management Project in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, or IIJA, Plan released today.
This project is intended to provide flood risk management for the more than 230,000 people and 70 square miles of infrastructure in the communities of Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo, Horace and Harwood. It includes building a 30-mile-long diversion channel in North Dakota with upstream staging, a 20-mile-long southern embankment, 19 highway bridges, four railroad bridges, three gated structures, two aqueduct structures, several drop structures, and an open culvert structure.
These funds will allow the St. Paul District to complete all remaining portions of the federal work to include the Red River Structure, remaining southern embankment reaches and vital environmental mitigation.
“Receiving $437 million to complete all of the remaining federal work for the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion Project is terrific news,” said Col. Karl Jansen, St. Paul District commander. “As a result, this project will no longer have to compete for federal funding each year, ensuring we can finish our work on schedule for the benefit of our fellow citizens.”
