BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Extreme cold temperatures have posed extra challenges to the dredging project underway on Burlington’s waterfront, including breaking through ice to reach the lake bottom.
As crews dig, the soil that gets pulled up is separated to determine what can be recycled. But not all of it can be sorted right away. So, the city is asking for approval of just under $34,000 to hold some of the sediment that they’re still unsure is reusable.
“We still think it won’t be landfilled, but we’re having to stockpile it and possibly amend it, so we want to have the funds available to manage that in a way the state is happy with,” said Jon Adams-Kollitz, project manager.
