KALAMAZOO, Mich. — An Environmental Protection Agency advisory group will host three meetings to discuss the cleanup of a Superfund sites along the Kalamazoo River.
The EPA formed a Kalamazoo River community advisory group to act as a public forum for anyone interested in learning about the site cleanup, talk about community needs and concerns, and develop recommendations from the community regarding the Allied Paper, Portage Creek, Kalamazoo River Superfund site.
The meetings will be held in Kalamazoo and Otsego to address different areas of the Superfund site:
The first meeting will be about the background and status of the Allied Landfill, Willow/A-site Landfill, and 12th Street Landfill. It will be held Thursday, June 27, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the St. Joseph Parish Gym, 930 Lake Street.
The second meeting will be on the background and status of the entire Kalamazoo River Superfund site. It will be held Thursday, August 8, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Otsego Township Hall, 400 North 16th Street.
The last meeting will discuss the Natural Resource Trustees and Michigan role in the cleanup, and update on the temporary dam at Trowbridge, the King Highway Landfill, King Street storm sewer and the GP Former 5 Lagoons. The meeting will be held September 26, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Otsego Township Hall.
