Arsonists that torched three dredging vehicles near Yeovil – including a boat – could have caused a water pollution emergency.
The boat was sunk spilling oil into the River Yeo as a result of the attack which also left a digger and dredger on the bank burnt out.
The vehicles, belonging to the Environment Agency and worth £200,000, were set alight in the early hours of Sunday, October 9 near Ilchester.
The fire caused oil to seep from the boat and it was only the quick work of the fire service and the Environment Agency that prevented the River Yeo from being contaminated.
