A beach driving closure in Emerald Isle has been extended for contractors to begin removing dredge equipment throughout the week.
Army Corps of Engineers are in the final stages of the dredging project. The contractor was dredging 200-thousand cubic yards of sand out of the nearby waterway crossing at Bogue Inlet.
Dredging helps replace the sand that has drifted by waves and currents as well as restoring the appearance.
Beach driving will remain closed from the Doe Drive ramp (west) toward The Point till April 8.
Town officials say beach driving remains open east of the Doe Drive ramp until March 28, but all beach driving will be suspended starting on Friday, March 29 to Sunday, April 7.
