Posted on July 11, 2025

European contractor services company, VolkerWessels, has agreed to the sale of its Dutch construction business.

Dutch investment firm, HAL Holding, and its marine contractor business, Boskalis, have signed a document outlining their intent to buy the construction, property development, and infrastructure operations of VolkerWessels in the Netherlands, where the latter is also headquartered.

Last year, the activities of these operational segments generated a combined turnover of more than €3.5 billion and operational profit of €217 million.

VolkerFitzpatrick, VolkerRail, VolkerStevin, VolkerHighways, and VolkerLaser, which belong to VolkerWessels owner, Reggeborgh Holding, are not mentioned as part of the acquisition.

For the year ended 31 December 2023, VolkerWessels’ UK business posted revenue of £1.4 billion, a marked increase on the £1.3 billion achieved in the previous financial period, generating a pre-tax profit of £38.6 million (FY2022: £37.7 million).

This was in addition to a forward secured order book value of more than £1.3 billion, compared to £1.7 billion the year prior.

A press statement by HAL Holding N.V reads: “HAL and Koninklijke Boskalis B.V. (‘Boskalis’) have signed a letter of intent with Koninklijke VolkerWessels B.V. (‘VolkerWessels’) relating to the acquisition of the Dutch Construction and Property Development as well as the Infrastructure activities of VolkerWessels.

“The completion of the transaction is subject to due diligence and other customary conditions for such transactions, including approval by the relevant competition authorities and consultation with the relevant works councils.”
