The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced yesterday that it had released nearly P79 million to benefit its Climate Change and Adaptation and Mitigation (CCAM) projects in Region 1.

DSWD Regional Director Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo said various CCAM projects are now set to be implemented in 38 Local Government Units (LGUs) in the region.

These projects received a total funding of P78,998,200 from the DSWD with the aim of eliminating or reducing the long-term risks and hazards of climate change to human life and properties.

Among those who would directly benefit from these projects are 41,578 residents, who are engaged in cash-for-work projects in different parts of the region, Castillo said.

He said the intensification of these projects this year is among the commitments of the DSWD to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), particularly in building resilient communities and protecting the natural environment.

The individuals, who are participating in the temporary 10-day work, will perform the repair and construction of box culverts, farm-to-market roads, dredging of canals, riprapping, dredging of rivers, removal of waste in canals and waterways, protect fishery resources, slope protection, and desilting of waterways.

Recently, the DSWD Region 1 visited the proposed CCAM projects in Anda, Pangasinan such as the rehabilitation and plantation of mangroves along a coastal barangay, slope protection, and desilting of canals. These will aid 2,986 beneficiaries with a funding of P5.67 million.
