BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — The drought last summer affected many bodies of water, like the St. Clairsville reservoir.
Now, the city is taking advantage of the opportunity to dredge its north end.
“We can pull anywhere from 3 to 5 feet of sediment out of that 1.12 acre area and that would naturally increase our water supply,” St. Clairsville Director of Public Service/Safety Scott Harvey said.
Not only does the project help the city if there is another dry spell, but Harvey said it’s been a while since any major dredging was done.
“The EPA has recommended that we do some dredging,” Harvey said. “It was in the report to us, so we went back through, and we did some minor dredging, I believe, in 2018.”
But for this 2-week job, Miller Excavating was the lowest bid at a little more than $130,000 to expand the supply into the north end run off. The peroject will not stop the city’s water production.
