DUNEDIN, Fla. — A popular Florida state park is on its way to recovery after taking a serious hit from Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Sky Drones Pilot John Yanchoris captured the ongoing dredging efforts at Honeymoon Island, located off the coast of Pinellas County, on Sunday, Jan. 12.
According to Yanchoris, the island, which welcomes over a million visitors each year, suffered flooding and major damage to structures during the back-to-back hurricanes.
While the island has partially reopened to visitors, the north beach remained closed as of Sunday.
Dredging removes sediments and debris from the bottom of the water, making waterways more navigable and reducing the risk of exposure to contaminants, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
