Dredging work underway to restore Carl Gray Park Boat Ramp

Posted on April 21, 2025

BAY COUNTY, Fla. – Work to improve the Carl Gray Park boat ramp is now underway.

Crews began dredging work on Wednesday afternoon to remove about 600 cubic yards of sand and sediment on the bay bottom.

Hurricane Sally pushed all of the sediment up near the boat ramp in 2020.

Not only will the dredging help improve boat launching, but it will also restore aquatic habitats and reduce flooding.

The city has a FEMA grant that will pay for 95 percent of the $180,000 project.

This is just one of a series of recent improvements the city has undertaken at Carl Gray Park.

“We’ve got pavilions, we’ve got plenty of parking. We’ve got just a beautiful area for people to enjoy. We’ve added some bathrooms. So it’s really just a great park there, again, to remain committed to something that we want. And that’s waterfront access for all of Panama City, not just those that can live alongside it,” City Manager Johnathan Hayes said.

The boat ramp will stay open to the public during the dredging work.

The project is set to be completed by May 15th.
