Dredging Work in River Godavari Launched to Improve Storage Capacity

City MLA Akula Satyanarayana launched dredging work to remove sand from the Godavari at Kotilingala Peta in Rajamahendravaram on Monday.

Though the capacity of the Sir Arthur Cotton barrage is three tmcft, only 1.5 tmcft of water could be stored due to accumulation of sand in the river. After removal of sand, the water holding capacity would increase. Fishermen would also be benefited as they would get more catch, the MLA said.

Scarcity of sand would end and construction work would pick up providing livelihood for construction workers, he added.
