Mariners are advised that the 29m cutter suction dredge Kalimna has commenced dredging operations in The Narrows at the Port of Gippsland.
The dredging work includes sections of the navigable channel to the northwest of the entrance to North Arm between Buoy No 2 (Fl.R.3s) and Buoy No 6 (Fl.R.3s). Pipework extends from the dredge to a connection point on the northern mainland shoreline.
The dredge will be displaying the lights and shapes as required by Rule 27(b) & (d) of the Collision Regulations. Two all-round green lights (by night) or two diamonds (by day) in a vertical line indicate the side on which vessels may pass.
Mariners are advised to take extra precaution, especially at night, when navigating through The Narrows and to give the dredge a wide berth when passing.
Dredging operations will take approximately four weeks to complete.
