Dredging Scheduled for Ontonagon Harbor

Posted on December 20, 2018

The $1.1 million contract will allow for the removal of about 132,000 cubic yards of shoal material from the Federal navigation channel. The material will be placed along the shoreline beginning at the East Pier, and will extend 4,000 feet east for beach nourishment.

Corps officials say a lack of funding for regular maintenance dredging has inhibited the development of new commercial users of the harbor.

The harbor was last dredged in 2016. The current project will be completed in 2019.
