EMERALD ISLE, Carteret County — Dredging in the Bogue Inlet has resumed since Hurricane Erin passed by the North Carolina coast.
The work in between Emerald Isle and Bear Island is scheduled to wrap up later this month or early September.
Emerald Isle Town Manager Frank Rush said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is sidecast dredging to relocate the main channel away from the point, essentially creating a central way to get in and out of the inlet.
Rush said it’ll make it safer and quicker for boaters, while also protecting the point.
The maintenance work costs $600,000 and is fully paid for by the federal government, according to Rush.
