SARASOTA, Fla. – Sarasota County has started a multiphase dredging project along Phillippi Creek to address flooding issues during major storms.
“Because flooding causes complete destruction,” said Clayton Pelletier, who lives and works just along the creek. “We have, in the past, had significant flooding issues.”
Islands of sand and sediment made their way into the creek, and that extra material causes more water to build up.
Phase 1 of Sarasota County’s dredging project will allow stormwater to flow more freely within the bands of the creek to eliminate flooding.
