A dredging project in southern New Jersey has been shut down after 20,000 gallons of treated water and dredge spoils spilled onto a residential street.
The Press of Atlantic City reports (http://bit.ly/1OPuShc ) the project was put on hold Tuesday, one day after the state Department of Environmental Protection said Friday’s spill was a “minor issue.”
The contractor, Stone Harbor officials and permitting agencies are seeking a solution to the problem that first cropped up on Dec. 1, when a geotube ripped and began discharged treated waste.
The borough says yhr project is expected to resume over the next few days following a corrective action plan. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says dredging will start once the contractor finds a way to keep the water from going off the site.
