The much anticipated dredging of Oyama Canal has been put off another week.
Andrew Spear, who has spent the past five years trying to get the necessary approvals to dredge the canal that runs between Wood and Kalamalka lakes, had hoped to begin the work today.
However, Spear tells Castanet News he has run into another setback.
He says ministry officials are asking for an engineer report and more sediment samples before the work can go ahead.
The new date is next Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Spear finally received approval to do the work in June and was given three possible windows to do the work. The final window has now opened.
He says the canal, which is used by boaters to navigate between the two lakes, was dredged yearly until funding dried up in 1998.
Donations for the project are still being accepted at the group’s GoFundMe page. They have received nearly $90,000 in donations along with in-kind donations for some of the work that needs to be done.
