Dredging Of A River In Galway Turns Up Thousands Of Empty Bottles Of Buckfast

What would you expect to find at the bottom of a river?

Well, there are works being done on Claddagh Basin in Galway and it’s kind of like looking into the county’s soul.

According to the Connacht Tribune, the main thing they found were “thousands” of empty bottle of the popular tonic wine, Buckfast. They also found about 100 traffic cones, said to be worth about €50 each.

Other items found at the bottom of the river include an ironing board, a filing cabinet, a television, as well as general litter and rubbish.

Wonder what we’d find if we were to trawl the rivers of other major cities…
