Dredging is on the go along the lower Yarra River

Posted on June 25, 2025

Dredging is on the go along the lower Yarra River to provide better boating access to a pair of publicly-accessible berths.

Thanks to a previous round of our Recreational Boating Grants, which reinvest vessel rego and licence fees into projects, City of Melbourne is dredging at Collins Landing and Yarra’s Edge marina.

Nearly 11,000 cubic metres of sediment will be removed as part of the project, which is expected to take several weeks. Depth will be improved to about 2.5 metres at both spots using a suction cutter dredge via a barge.

Collins Edge is on the north side of the Yarra (pictured) while Yarra’s Edge is allocated just across the river. Both offer limited free berthing if your boating adventure takes you up toward Melbourne’s CBD.

City of Melbourne tell us there’s minimal impacts to access while work is underway, but an exclusion zone is in place to ensure safety for boaters and contractors.

We’ll keep you updated on how things are tracking.
