The first phase of dredging at John Redmond Reservoir is complete.
Great Lakes Dredge and Docks began the project in May at the lake near Burlington.
The Kansas Water Office says 3 million cubic yards of sediment was removed from the reservoir and placed in disposal facilities.
The sediment removal is to ensure the future water supply for 19 surrounding communities and six industrial users.
The project is the first of its kind in the nation with a non-federal entity dredging sediment from a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir.
