Dredging Begins in Varuna

Posted on June 21, 2016

The Varuna Corridor project is taking a shape in Varanasi.

Five hydraulic amphibian excavators have been engaged for dredging in the Varuna. Beautification of the newly built ghats and pathways on both sides of the river is to be taken up.

The mud obtained in the process of channelization will be treated and erosion control mats will be set up to beautify the ghats in an eco-friendly way. The sewer and waste water that falls in the river will be diverted. The Jal Nigam engineers were asked to start boring for installation of handpump on Shastri Ghat.

Divisional commissioner Nitin Ramesh Gokarn along with district magistrate and other officials made a site inspection of the project on Saturday.

The superintending engineer of the Irrigation department was asked to expedite the work and finish the model’s work up to a stretch of 2 kms within ten days.
