The Town of Nags Head initiated the procurement process for its next beach nourishment project in fall 2025, with bids officially opened on November 13, 2025. Three qualified dredging contractors submitted proposals, offering options for construction during the summer 2026 or summer 2027 work windows.
At its December 17, 2025 meeting, the Nags Head Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a Notice of Intent to Award the contract for the 2026 beach nourishment project to Weeks Marine. The selected bid totals $36,864,100. Formal contract authorization and issuance of a Notice of Award are anticipated at the Board’s February 4, 2026 meeting.
Following contract execution in early 2026, the Town will finalize the project schedule. A decision on whether construction proceeds in summer 2026 or is deferred to summer 2027 will be based on available financing, ongoing beach condition monitoring, and dredge availability.
