Dredger shifted

Posted on April 29, 2019

The Port department has moved its dredging vessel 100 metres closer to the confluence point of the Grand Canal with the sea because of the rough weather and IMD forecasting heavy rains due to Cyclone Fani on April 30.

A senior official of the department said tenders had been floated and dredging of 60,000 cubic metres of sand was under way. However, the dredger had now been moved and deployed 100 metres away.

The dredger is now engaged in removing silt in another patch near the confluence point of the Grand Canal that runs through the White Town. It will take three months to complete the work to dredge 60,000 cubic metres of sand. The dredger will be deployed to its original location near the sea mouth after the situation gets normalised, he said.
