Dredging of the basin at the port of Cape Jervis is now complete allowing the operators of KI Connect to continue planning for the start of the service to Kangaroo Island.
KIC managing director David Harris said the dredging was finalised last week after the big, long-arm excavator was able to deepen area directly adjacent to where the James Cowell ferry would dock and pick up passengers.
Mr Harris said there was still some work to do tidying up the spoil removed from the basin, but that the contractor had to wait for the sandy material to dry out.
KI Connect was not going to commit to any start date for the service but was now in the process of employing new workers and conducting staff training.
The company was also working on its www.kic.com.au website and was hoping to be able to take bookings as soon as possible, both online and through its call centre.
The plan when all the pieces fell into place was to start limited, twice-daily service to Penneshaw, with an early morning service and then a late-afternoon service, timed with public transport arriving at Cape Jervis.
