A spill caused by ruptures in two geotubes late Tuesday have shut down the borough’s dredging project.
Neighbors on 80th and 81st streets reported the accident to the Department of Environmental Protection, which confirmed to them on Wednesday that work had been suspended and a clean-up was underway.
DEP spokesman Larry Hajna declined comment Wednesday and borough officials could not be reached Thursday for an update on the status of the $10.2 million project.
