Dredge Removal Stopped Due to Contractor’s Non-permitted Work

The city’s ongoing efforts to clear the sediment choking its back bay and lagoons hit another roadblock when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ordered a stoppage in work late last month on the city’s spoils site near the 34th Street bridge.

Army Corps spokesman Richard Pearsall said the contractor constructed an earthen pier to help the barge unload spoils from the site into trucks, and did so without obtaining the necessary permit.
