Locals of Charangpat have appealed to the MLA and authority concerned to dredge the Arong River flowing through Charangpat village, near the road in Charangpat Mayai Leikai as done in respect of Charangpat Maning and Charangpat Mayai Leikai.
The dredging is being carried out under the initiative of the local MLA.
Speaking in a public meeting at Charangpat Luxmi Bazar SYVA Ground jointly by Pukhri Achouba Development Committee Charangpat Mayai (PADC) and Social Youth Volunteers’ Academy Charangpat Mamang (SYVA) on Tuesday, PADC vice president S Romesh pointed out that dredging of Arong River carried out along Charangpat Mamang Leikai and Charangpat Maning Leikai has now converted the drain like river into a large water body.
However, similar dredging in the area of Charangat Mayai Leikai is said to be carried out along the paddy held diverting much further away from the road which is very unfortunate and should not be done, he said, while adding that the dredging of the river should be done near the road.
“This will not only bring the river closer to the water supply scheme taken up by the MLA but also provide much benefit to the people residing along the road” .
If the dredging is carried out along the side near the paddy held, the river would become useless as it is the area where garbage are thrown and deposited and render the efforts of the MLA meaningless, he said while appealing to the MLA and authority concerned to conduct the dredge work near the road in Charangpat Mayai Leikai as is done in Charangpat Mamang Leikai and Charangpat Maning Leikai.
