Dominion Energy Virginia has released its 2024 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), outlining a strategy to meet growing power demand with reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy. Nearly 80% of the new power generation in the plan will be carbon-free, including offshore wind, solar, battery storage, and small modular nuclear reactors.
The IRP highlights Dominion’s focus on an “all-of-the-above” approach, integrating a variety of energy sources to ensure reliability as demand is projected to double by 2039.
Among the significant developments are 3,400 MW of new offshore wind capacity and 12,000 MW of new solar, alongside natural gas as a backup power source. The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project, already under development, remains the largest in the U.S.
Dominion Energy is also investing heavily in grid upgrades and energy efficiency programs. In 2024 alone, the company completed 123 transmission projects, with more large-scale initiatives planned in partnership with other utilities.
Ed Baine, President of Dominion Energy Virginia, emphasised the importance of affordability and clean energy, noting residential rates are currently 14% below the national average.
