JAKARTA – The DKI Jakarta Water Resources Office (SDA) has dredged around 835,000 cubic meters of sediment and mud in reservoirs, rivers, dams, and ponds in various areas of Jakarta as part of efforts to maximize flood management.

“Until now, we have dredged approximately 835,000 cubic meters, both in rivers, canals, reservoirs, and micro channels,” said Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Office Nugraharyadi in a briefing themed Mitigation Efforts to Overcome High Rainfall which was monitored in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, December 14.

Reservoirs, dams, and ponds serve as rainwater retention and temporary storage areas. A number of these infrastructures have also been revitalized, including the Aseni Dam in West Jakarta, the Giri Kencana Dam in East Jakarta, and the Red Field Embankment in South Jakarta.

In addition, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has also optimized water storage capacity by building polders in a number of flood-prone locations.

“There are 52 units of polders that have been built, and the target will reach 70 polders,” said Nugraharyadi.

Flood control efforts are also carried out by activating water pumps, both permanent and mobile pumps, especially in flood-prone areas. Currently, there are 612 permanent pumps spread across 211 pump houses, about 590 mobile pumps, and 260 heavy equipment units that are alerted for mud dredging.

Based on the mapping that has been carried out, there are approximately 261 puddle points in the DKI Jakarta area which are of concern to the local government.

In addition to dredging and operating pumps, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also continues to encourage the normalization of the Ciliwung River with a total target of 33.69 kilometers. Until now, normalization has been realized along 17.14 kilometers, while the remaining 16.55 kilometers are still awaiting the land acquisition process.

“We accelerate the release of the land. For authority, land release is carried out by the DKI Provincial Government, while the physical construction of normalization is the authority of the Ministry of Public Works,” said Nugraharyadi.
