Walking Dionis Beach, which has seen great erosion, as I do each Saturday, I noticed a number or green plastic circles with beach grass planted in each one.
This effort to replenish the dune area makes perfect sense. The grass will help hold needed sand in place and will enhance this well-used area.
The ConCom’s decision to allow the expansion of the geotubes in Sconset, however, makes no sense. The bluff continues to erode dispite trying to use this method to save them.
Previous members of this town commission agreed to ask for a stop order and noted violations when it came to adding improper sand over the geotubes.
The current commission has ignored past failures and violations. Take a ride down and see for yourself. It is obvious that past actions make no sense.
If you visit Dionis Beach this summer, keep your children out of what is left of the dunes and take your dog waste with you. This is a health issue.
If you go to Town Meeting, ask what the plan is for the land on which Our Island Home sits. It is valuable waterfront property, will it be sold with building restrictions?
The money could be used to offset the cost of construction. Might the Land Bank be interested and keep it open space?
I have yet to get an answer and voters need one before Town Meeting. Common sense I hope prevails.
