DEME Group Completes First Offshore Wind Farm in France

Posted on April 27, 2021

A key milestone in the Saint-Nazaire OWF project was achieved on April 21 by completing the foundations of the future offshore substation. This will be the first commercial offshore wind farm ever to be built in France.

Our vessel ‘Sea Installer’ completed the installation of the four subsea foundation piles in record time, even though they were drilled into rock and in the challenging Atlantic marine conditions. DEME Offshore used its in-house designed subsea template, tailor-made drilling equipment and methodology to accomplish this phase of the project.

The lessons learnt from this achievement will be implemented for the next installation of the pile foundations for the Fécamp and Courseulles offshore substations.

Meanwhile our offshore installation vessel ‘Innovation’ will start the installation of the 80 monopile foundations and XL monopile rock drilling at Saint-Nazaire.

A consortium of SDI/DEME Offshore, Atlantique Offshore Energy and GE Grid Solutions was awarded the EPCI contract for the electrical substation for the offshore wind farm at Saint-Nazaire by Parc du Banc de Guérande, a subsidiary of EMF (Eolien Maritime France), a consortium made up of EDF Renouvelables and Enbridge.
