DEME Group, a global leader in offshore construction, announced significant progress this week at the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) farm, developed in partnership with Dominion Energy. The project has achieved a key milestone with the installation of 70 monopile foundations, a critical step in the construction of one of the largest offshore wind farms in the United States.
The work has been carried out by DEME’s offshore installation vessel, Orion, which is staffed by expert DEME employees and skilled local union members. In addition to foundation installation, DEME successfully laid the first export cable using the cable installation vessel Living Stone.
The company expressed appreciation for the support of teams at the Portsmouth Marine Terminal, a key staging area for the project. DEME looks forward to continuing its collaboration with partners including the US Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Virginia International Terminals, The Port of Virginia, and Prysmian, as they advance this major clean energy initiative.
Once completed, the wind farm will consist of 176 turbines, generating enough renewable energy to power up to 660,000 homes, marking a significant contribution to the US energy transition.
