Delray Beach Hosts Ribbon-Cutting Event for Major Beach Nourishment Project by GLDD

Posted on December 8, 2025

The City of Delray Beach, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the State of Florida, and Palm Beach County, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on December 8, 2025, to officially launch a major beach nourishment project aimed at restoring and reinforcing the city’s shoreline. The event will be held at the south end of the Municipal Beach near the Casuarina Road beach entrance, overlooking the project site.

The ceremony will feature remarks from Congresswoman Lois Frankel, Delray Beach Mayor Tom Carney, Colonel Bowman, Chris McNees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Palm Beach County Vice Mayor Marci Woodward. Speakers will highlight the importance of coastal resilience, regional collaboration, and the long-term environmental, recreational, and economic benefits associated with the project.

Supported by federal funding through the Fiscal 2025 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, along with contributions from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Palm Beach County, and the City of Delray Beach, this multi-million-dollar project represents a unified commitment to protecting and preserving Delray Beach’s coast.

Administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and awarded to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, the nourishment effort will place new sand along eroded portions of Delray Beach. This work will restore recreational beach areas, improve storm protection, and bolster natural defenses against rising sea levels. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately following the ceremony and continue through early 2026.

The beach nourishment effort will replenish eroded areas, restore recreational spaces, and reinforce the city’s natural defenses against storms and rising sea levels. Beyond its environmental benefits, the project is expected to enhance tourism, expand public recreation opportunities, and support long-term sustainability.

“Delray Beach is proud to be taking this important step toward protecting our coastline and ensuring the future vitality of our community,” said City Manager Terrence Moore. “This project reflects the strength of our partnerships at every level of government and our shared commitment to a resilient Delray Beach.”

The City’s beach nourishment project exemplifies Delray Beach’s proactive approach to coastal management and collaboration with state, county, and federal partners to safeguard the community for generations to come.

Event Parking Information:

Limited parking for the ceremony will be available at Anchor Park and along A1A. Guests are encouraged to carpool and arrive early to allow time to walk to the event site.
