Mongla Port Authority signed a deal with Dredging Corporation of India Limited to dredge the Pasur River to ensure easier transport of coal, construction equipment and raw materials via aquatic channels to the Rampal Power Plant project site.
MPA Chairman AKM Faruq Hasan and DCIL Chairman Rajesh Tripathi on Sunday inked the Tk166 crore deal on behalf of the respective sides at the port premises.
The dredging will commence from August and is scheduled to end in June 2018.
The dredging will create five metres of additional depth at the river bottom by lifting 3.9 million cubic metres of sand across an 8km area.
