Dane County Task Force Reviews Plan to Deal With Historic Flooding

Posted on February 7, 2019

MADISon, Wis. (WMTV) – Dane County has organized a task force to deal with the damage left by last summer’s historic flooding.

The Dane County Board put together the 13-member Yahara Chain of Lakes Flooding task force last fall.

The task force released its 52-page report Monday and are meeting to review the information.

The task force’s goal is to determine the best way to manage lake levels in the future, and respond to potential weather pattern changes that could cause flooding.

They looked at seven scenarios to improve the outcome in the future, including three adaptation scenarios and four mitigation scenarios.

The task force found that the Yahara River dredging in combination with rerouting and pumping the flow of the water produced the best results for lowering flood levels.

The task force will meet six times over the next two months, with a final meeting scheduled for April 1.
